Fifa 2012 was released about two months ago now and it has sold over 5 million copies since the release with 3.2 million copies selling in the first week alone. It is the most recent instalment of EA sports’ bestselling Fifa franchise, Pro Evolution Soccer (more commonly known as PES) who are the rivals of Fifa were nowhere near as successful with their latest release of Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 with an average of every one copy of PES sold Fifa has sold 25. There have been 271 million online games played since the release and fans of the game are currently playing an average of 94 million minutes of Fifa online every day.
There is of course the traditional “Kick Off” game mode which has been in all Fifa games, this is a straight forward game mode where you pick your team and you pick the team you play against, you then play the match against Artificial Intelligence (AI) where you are essentially playing against your Xbox or PlayStation. Then there is also the usual “Career Mode” where you pick your team and you play for the same team, you can buy players, sell players and play seasons and try and work your way to the top. These are the normal Single player game modes.
You then come to Multiplayer and Online. EA have completely changed the way that you play online, instead of just picking your team and playing against another person online like in Fifa 11 and it would keep track of all your stats such as wins, draws and losses. They have now added “Divisions” to the “Head to Head” online aspect which makes the games much more interesting and competitive. You play against people who are in the same division as you. You are limited to 10 games in each division and you are given a target amount of points you must reach to get promoted and a target you must reach if you want to stay in that division, if you don’t reach that target then you get relegated into the lower division if you meet your first target when you run out of games then you remain in the division if you meet the bigger target then you are promoted into the higher division. There are 10 divisions in total and you begin much further down in the 9th or 10th division and everyone’s target is to get to division one. As you complete your 10 games, depending on what amount of points you get at the end you will get promoted into the higher division and so you will obviously come up against much tougher opponents as you progress through the divisions, therefore the target to get to the first division gets increasingly harder. There is also the less competitive “Online Friendlies” where you play against your friends and it is more laid back and not as serious as Head to Head but it is similar to the way Head to Head works because you get to play 10 games against every friend and whoever gains the most points in those 10 games wins the season so it is still competitive in a way. It also keeps track of your Wins, draws and losses against each one of your friends. Another online feature is “Pro clubs” this is where you can create a team with your friends and can play games cooperatively with your friends against other teams made by people. You and your friends each pick positions to play in and you can play in a tournament for a cup or you can play a league game where it keeps track of your stats. This was in Fifa 11 as well making your “Virtual Pro” which returned in Fifa 12, this consists of you making a player choosing what position he plays customizing what he looks like and your player starts at a low level and you must complete challenges to make him a better player, the challenges range from making tackles, to do certain passes successfully to scoring goals in different ways. As you complete these challenges your player will get faster, better at passing and shooting etc. You also use your Virtual Pro in Pro Clubs and you can play him in your team in career mode as well. This is by far my most favourite Fifa game I give it a 10/10.
There is also another online feature called Ultimate Team but I will leave that for another post.
Thanks for Reading.
